Author:  Tara West

Publication Date: July 30, 2018

Rating: 4/5

Overview:

Amara was content to live as a lone wolf, the only one of her kind—or so she’d thought. Her world was flipped on its head when a strange man with a familiar scent showed up at her work, demanding a private meeting.

Desperate to find the mate Luc had scented from four hundred miles away, he was shocked to find her living as a lone wolf. Amaroki women were to be cherished and protected. What had happened to her family? More importantly, how was he going to convince her to return to the reservation with him? And how would his possessive brothers react when they found him with Amara?

(This is my first book review, please bear with me while I figure this out. There will be no spoilers.)

I received a kindle for Christmas and it didn’t take long to dig deep into the depths of the Kindle store for something new to read. When I came across this book I didn’t know what a reverse harem book was. After looking up the term, my honest thought was, “you’ve got to be kidding me”. I decided to give it a chance because I figured it would give me a good laugh. Well, after reading this book, I will never assume something about someone’s book ever again.

I adored it, almost too much.

One of the things I enjoyed about this book was the comical aspects. There were certain points in the dialogue between characters that made me burst out into laughter. I couldn’t believe the inappropriate remarks that were being made. It was awful timing on the characters’ part, but the author makes the reader well aware of that. I also enjoyed how each character had different personalities. Typically when I read a book there will be characters that are too similar and I begin confusing them, then I’d have to reread paragraphs to get myself back on track. I was thankful I didn’t have to do that with this book. The last thing I enjoyed was the very steamy, high-key explicit love scenes. I had to put the kindle down to take a breath, even fan myself a few times. I was not expecting those particular scenes, but they were a welcomed surprise.

The only real complaints I have revolve around certain phrases used. I felt some words/phrases were too repetitive. I’ve seen worse, but it still bothers me sometimes. Also, the MC was blaming herself too much for certain things that were out of her control. Granted, it worked for the story, but it would have been fine if the pity party was toned down a smidge.

Overall: This story was surprisingly refreshing. Tara West’s writing style was captivating and she really makes you visualize the scenes as you’re reading them. I finished this book within 24 hours because I couldn’t put it down. I just HAD to get to the end. My best friend is even reading the series now and she’s hooked. I will definitely be reading more works from this author.
